Suction cup medicine

General overview

Suction cup medicine is based on physiotherapy, osteopathy and Chinese medicine. By creating a massive blood flow through suction, the suction cup causes decompression at the place where it is applied. The blood circulation at this point is thus improved and the pain is significantly reduced.
Acupuncture points can also be stimulated by suction cups.

Main objectives of the method

The main objective of suction cup medicine is to relieve pain.

Specificities of the method

A session lasts about 20 minutes, but each suction cup never remains on the skin for more than 2 minutes. Slight pain, comparable to that of a pinch, may occur.
Then, different types of sessions exist:
The hot suction cup: This is the oldest and most used method. It consists in emptying the suction cup of its air before the pose with the help of a flame.
The cold suction cup: A pump system is used to empty the air from the suction cup.
The scarified suction cup : The skin is "scratched" before the installation of a suction cup, hot or cold. This method is used more particularly for acute inflammatory and articular pains as well as migraines.

Who is this method for ?

The suction cup method is intended for people suffering from pain.
It is used by some therapists to reduce muscle spasticity in patients with cerebral palsy.

What parents say about it

"It's not necessarily pleasant, but the benefits afterwards are really visible. Two weeks later, the pain was less."
According to the professionals: "The method should not be used in children under 4 years of age. However, in general, children respond well and do not fear treatment. In children, the suction cups used are smaller and less suction is required. A session will also have a shorter duration".
